Pat Whitehead

I look to the wider world around me for a story to tell. Sometimes it’s about the complexity of nature and my concern for its fragility.  Or it reflects a need to find relief from the intrusion of social noise and discover a sweet harmony in our surroundings.

My travels give me inspiration.  I search for a scene that holds my attention long after my initial encounter.  These fleeting moments are just the start of my paintings.  Once the actual process begins, the image often takes on a life of its own. It is the intuitive, messy relationship between color and line that finally fulfills the narrative. The painting is representational, yet there is an abstract connection in the shapes and color.  But the story is always there.
