Artist Statement

In 1978, while I was a senior in college majoring in Marine Biology, I tried my first pottery class. I had finally realized why I was born with large hands. As my love for the art and my skills grew, I received requests from friends to make teapots, lamps, and mugs. I studied science in graduate school, but would take a break in the campus clay studio.

Eventually I purchased a wheel and kiln and used our kitchen as a studio. Although I finished school, my urge to create pottery kept me from devoting my life to science.

We moved into a larger home where I could have a dedicated studio work space. I have been creating fish and oyster platters and many other pieces of ceramic art since.
