Gary Fisher
ARTIST STATEMENT
Working primarily in his studio and gardens, Gary creates vibrant and evocative oil paintings that express the beauty of the natural world. His focus is the coastal environment, its sunrises and sunsets, and the light that reflects off wetlands and bays.

A former DC resident and currently based in Rehoboth Beach, Gary began painting seriously after a multi-decade career as a natural resource and environmental attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice, during which he worked on the Exxon Valdez cleanup in Alaska. His artwork ranges from textural, abstract landscapes to brilliantly colored still life and figurative paintings. His most recent subjects include plain-air paintings inspired by the poppy fields of Provence, the ice fields he encountered during an Antarctic voyage, and the gardens surrounding his home and workshop.
An avid hiker, biker, and all-around adventurer, Gary imbues his work with that special stillness we all experience during our quiet moments with nature. In his highly individual vision of scenery and subject, color dominates, and the play of light is expressed in applications of intense and often surprising hues. Paint strokes are infused with exuberance and the results are dream-like, playful, and spontaneous. The canvases take on a life of their own and provide viewers with a place for contemplation.
