"Calibrating the Seasons"
June 19 - July 1
I'm sharing a lens into the process of my ongoing series based in nature along the river and coastal region of southern Delaware. The paintings and works on paper are centered on the four seasons and natures pulse from winter to summer. You could say I borrow from nature and give back in paint with randomly arranged and imaginary patterned flora. My walks along the river in the different seasons is a promise of a potential painting which are visual metaphors navigating all aspects of life.
My forms are inspired by the natural surroundings along the river. However, I try to push beyond natures real palette creating my own color sense as I respond to the exaggerated river leaf forms, flowers and moving water. Nature is not at rest in any season, it is unexpected. I want my paintings to reflect that ever-changing cycle. I'm always trying to be mindful and present of the balances and shifts of the seasons.
(while painting I was listening and painting quite a bit to Vivaldi's Four Seasons and Arvo Part's Tabula Rasa)
